About to start trying for a baby — when should we join daycare waitlists? (📍Upper East Side)
Pretty much the title. Husband and I are 34 and about to start trying for our first. We live on the Upper East Side and have a great deal on a 2br, so definitely plan to stay put for the foreseeable future. Eventually we’d like to buy something larger when it makes sense, but overall see ourselves raising a family on UES. We both work fulltime and plan on going back to our jobs after parental leave, so will definitely need fulltime infant/toddler daycare. We have a lot of family nearby (NJ/Long Island) but not close enough to help out with childcare on a regular basis. Relocating closer to family isn’t really an option, mostly because I can’t drive (medical reasons) but also we just really love living here. We are right by the Manhattan Schoolhouse in Yorkville, and out of curiosity we looked up pricing and then proceeded to go down a panicked rabbit hole about daycare waiting lists. Obviously my future/unborn child does not have to go to this daycare specifically, but is it this chaotic to get in everywhere? Should I be putting myself on a waitlist now, before we’re even pregnant, and if so how many? If it takes longer to conceive than planned, would we lose our spot? Will the daycare administrators think I’m totally batshit for applying 12+ months out with a hypothetical baby? Feel free to let me know if I’m being crazy and overthinking this. submitted by /u/citybby17 [link] [comments]
